Drop it in a bucket of gasoline. Best thing I've found for removing cosmoline.

Did you try good old Gasoline as a solvent?
Gas is rubber, plastic, paint safe.
It dries film/oil free..
Think of How many times in the last 40 years you have overfilled
the gastank in your truck and the paint has never been harmed?

We used to wash rental cars in gas to get road tar off them
after they had been driven down fresh oiled construction/roads, follow up was with water of windex.

Hot tank will take paper and all off in about 15 minutes.
In lieu of that any typical wash cabinet as used by engine machine shops works good.

That goop has really protected this part. Trying to remove it is now the problem? Goof luck.

I recently used white spirits (mineral spirit) in a ultrasonic cleaner to get the cosmolene off the ww2 pistons I used in the Ol 59 Flatty. It worked really well. The heat helps a bunch.
I showed it in a video.

Mart.

Soaking in Avgas will do the trick; though it may take awhile.

It's cheap candle wax. Throw the coated piece in boiling water. The wax will float to the top. Stick a wick in it. Let it cool. The wax will re-freeze. Lift the wax out with the wick. Perfect candle. Jack E/NJ

I used boiling water on a surplus rifle stock that was wrapped and covered, it took several gallons of water to wash it off.

Bendix used to literally dunk rotors in that stuff back in the day. I just cleaned up a NOS pair from the 80's..... putty knife first and then heat afterward to get the stuff to drip out of the middle vanes. What a party!
