Zephyrhills
I will be going to Florida in Feb. and was wondering how this swap meet would be for a Model A guy. Do they have rusty greasy stuff or is it mostly new and shiny? Thanks for any info.

Re: Zephyrhills
Ten years ago it was OK. I went two years ago - very little Model A stuff. I was lucky and found a few things that I was after. Not worth the trip except that I saw the shuttle launch the day before.

Re: Zephyrhills
While I have not been in a few years now, my personal opinion is that it was slim pickings down there as most of the local (lower-mid FL) parts are pretty used up. I used to go down and race my Model-A speedsters on the dirt track at the event so I had other reasons to be there. Maybe it just depends on how pick you are and what you are looking for??

That has been my experience at a lot of swap meets lately. Thanks for the help.

Re: Zephyrhills
I have attended for the past six-seven years and have found very few Model A items lately. Both the crowds as well as vendors seem to be on the decline too. However, if you are looking for a nice walk in the beautiful Florida weather, have at it.

I think Zepherhills is better than your average swap meet. It's also fun to watch the guys run around the dirt track in their speedsters. MIKE |

Re: Zephyrhills
Z-hills is not that far from me, but I haven't been in maybe 3 years or more. Last time I went there were a few "A" parts, however they were way over priced in my opinion. Last Sunday I went to the monthly car swap meet in Webster, FL. Even less "A" stuff then Z-hills, yet I did pickup an "A" intake manifold without the vacuum hole in real nice shape. For less money then it would have cost on eBay.

Re: Zephyrhills
Z-Hills & Moultrie have a few A vendors. I seem to find it more than the flathead stuff. Z-Hills seems to be the better of the two. Its really fading as a parts swap and trending towords more of a carnival/flea market theme.

Re: Zephyrhills
Bob did you go to Webster or Bushnell? Webster had turned Motorcycle but heard they have Car Parts again? Bushnell is usually better on the yearly extravaganza!

Re: Zephyrhills
willobs,
I call them both (motorcycle & car swap meets) "Webster". The motorcycle swap location is in the city limits of Webster I believe. And the car one is at the Sumter County fair grounds right out side the city limits. During the hottest months of the summer (June, July & August) the car swap closes down and some of the car vendors set up at the motorcycle swap site for these months. Last Sunday I went to both meets, they are only a few miles apart. I have heard that the motorcyle swap meet is the longest continually running monthly one in the US. I also was told that in the beginning the motorcycle and car meet was one in the same at the Webster city limit location. But the show promotors had a falling out and split up. One doing the motorcyle meet and the other doing the car meet. Bob-A |

Re: Zephyrhills
I have to agree, it has been about 5 years since I went and felt it was more of a flea market with many vendors selling 2nd hand house hold stuff. They did have a few Model A vendors and a couple of old gas pumps for sale and a few cars too.

Re: Zephyrhills
A friend and I are planning to go to the show in February. From reading the above, it looks like we should not count on getting any model A parts. That is OK as we have plenty of chances to get stuff back home in Mane. But, is the car show worth going to ? Is there a car corral ? Are there good memoribilia displays ? Thanks for your help, Bill.

Re: Zephyrhills
I have been going to Zephyrhills for near 30 yrs. There is a fall and winter show. winter is always best. Usually a large car corral with even larger prices! There is also a Auction. This last fall show was the first since carlisle productions has taken over, don't know if there will be big changes.
I have never bagged any rare A parts others have done so. I mostly buy from the A dealers to save shipping. Also Coker tire is a vendor so you can save shipping. Friday is usually the best day |

Re: Zephyrhills
There is a car corral - supply and prices were OK. Two years ago I wished that I had taken some money or lined up some credit. There were some bargains to be had at the auction - including a few Model A's. I was planning to go last year with money and a trailer but something else came up.

Wow, that's news to me. We actually quit running down there a few years ago due to insurance/safety issues. Carlisle Productions/Promotions/whomever actually purchased the ZepherHills event however I doubt the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Ass'n will run again there. Maybe you know something I don't? I will say that for several years I and my family took several cars down twice a year to play in the warm weather there at the Park. It was a great foundation that probably influenced my son to pursue a career in motorsports. The first 2 pix below are of my son who was 7 years old at the time when he was allowed to take the track for a few laps piloting my wife's speedster. I enjoyed the hard clay track there at Z/H Park as it was always fast! |

Re: Zephyrhills
Brent, all I know is the info provided in the link I posted and it actually didn't say speedsters.

Honestly, I think that link probably has verbiage from several years ago. At Hershey last fall I saw some folks from that group who I'm pretty sure said that Carlisle was in negociations to purchase the event. I don't know who to ask but surely you can find other stuff besides speedsters to go see and have a good time at the event. If Carlisle did indeed buy it, I'm sure it will be a good thing for its future. . |

Re: Zephyrhills
The quantity of Model A parts has dwindled there over the years, but that doesn't deter me from going because you never know what will be there. Besides I have other cars to hunt parts for. I've found some great stuff there the past couple years.
Rumor has it the track portion of the property was not included in the sale of the show & swap meet/auction portion of the property to Carlisle Events. If so this is why there's no racing. I do not see the racing listed on the official Carlisle Feb. AutoFest website. The Sierras(former owners) were still onsite at the November AutoFest, presumably to aid in the transition of the event to Carlisle. |
