Default 1959 generator and voltage regulator capacitors

I'm restoring a 1959 Edsel Ranger 292/auto. The generator and voltage regulator have what appear to be capacitors hanging on them. Are these just for radio noise suppression and can I run without them?

I can't find mention of them anywhere including the factory Edsel shop manuals and there are no markings on them to be able to match them up.

Yes they're for radio noise suppression. Chances are good they may also help to reduce sparks and arcing on the commutator and relay contacts. But it's been too long since that electronics class... ???

Yes, they're mainly for radio noise suppression. I have never found what the capacity of the original condensers was, so kind of hard to replace, even if you could get a new one that doesn't look like the old one.
Years ago I converted a '55 to 12-volts and installed a modern AM/FM stereo. I added a noise suppression capacitor from Radio Shack ahead of the power feed to the radio and threw away the old condensers.
