Bruce,
Check the hinge area at the top. Open the window a little and lift up to see if there is some slop in the hinge area. Maybe yer gas cap came from the steam show?

The only problem I ever had with opening the windshield was when I was about 7 driving across Kansas with dad in his 29 Town Sedan when that wasp came in. Ouch.
