Default Speedo cable

The speedo cable in my 51 ford broke. I replaced with a new one. After 1/2 miles driving in broke again. Both times making noise in the dash. The gear in the trans is okay so I think the problem is in the speedo. It seems as if something is locking up in speedo, can that be fixed. It twist and brakes off at the back. Thanks for your help

That is correct, Speedo stops turning and drive does not! Also very common in Model A's.

lube the speedometer input shaft , there should be a small pressed in plug near the threaded area on top of the cable input area on the speedo head , remove the plug lube the wic and turn the cable input shaft and see if the input shaft becomes easier to turn , I don't have a pic available maybe someone will post a picture.

Most speedometers rely on the die cast housing to hold the cable in place. After years and miles, they often permit the cable end to wobble, binding and breaking the the inner cable.
