That does not look like a Radiator Cap for a 1932 Ford to me. It may be a Gas Cap.. The 32 Cap has a Raised Rib which usually runs from front to back when installed. Also it is plated not painted. jmho. kerk

It looks like the "million dollar" B-8100B commercial radiator cap. Although I think those were stainless covered. If the outside diameter is about 3 1/2 inches, and it fits a radiator neck, then Bingo! I can't tell the actual size from the picture. The drawing for that part is in David's book.

Dick Spadaro always told me a 30/31 Model A gas cap was very close in basic design and size to a 32 commercial radiator cap. Since the cap on my deuce pu is a dummy that is what I used and it looks very close.

Not "the" cap given the underside. Despite over 100,000 of the B-8100-B caps having been produced, they are scarce today and have a habit of walking away on their own from unattended '32 commercial vehicles and big trucks (along with ash trays from '32 cabriolets left unattended). Used on all '32 vehicles with the commercial/big truck combined grill and radiator shell.

I'd post a picture of mine on the truck but I've never figured out pictures? To the average person it looks fine but not to someone like David who knows. I asked about one at the Early Ford Store in San Dimas and he said he'd had very few over the years.

To detour a bit, perhaps an even rarer '32 cap is the black-painted gas cap for commercial vehicles and big trucks. Of course you can just paint one of the stainless- steel-clad passenger car caps as they are otherwise identical. Ford likely saved more than a few pennies with the plain steel, black-painted version as they were out of sight underneath the bottom front seat cushion. Even if it was only a penny a cap, that added up to over $1,000 over the course of the model year. As with the radiator cap with so many produced it is a bit of a head scratcher that their survival rate is seemingly so low.

The sedan delivery had the stainless cap as it was exposed like the passenger car caps.

To answer your question from post # 10, Roy (RIP) had a story that a guy he knew bought a 32 pickup truck just to get the radiator cap. They are so "normal" looking that most of them got thrown away as "just a radiator cap". I found one in a bucket of junk a friends garage. He is well versed in early V8's (has a bunch) . He had no idea what it was. When I found it, I told him to get a white glove and wrap it in velvet and take it to the bank vault.

Wow; I have seen and held one correct one in 40 yrs. However, I have seen the plain painted version on a BB, and suspect some sort of 'Blackout' production run?? Anyway the 'Holy Grail" for '32 commercial fellows. Newc

I have two '32 commercial radiator caps (at least I believe both are authentic). Both are 3 1/2" OD and 3" ID where it fits over the radiator neck and appear to match the drawing David posted. One is an Eaton and the other EDM. The dented one was found in a bucket of "junk" model A parts! The other came with a really nice original paint '32 commercial shell and radiator assembly.

2935ford,

Given the depth of the skirt on the cap and the diameter of the center section of the underside, my guess is Model A gas cap.

Isn't it interesting what you find out with a little cleaning.
Found a patent number and isn't www a great source!
As you see A.C. Lippert et al Filed June 30, 1932 got approval July 9, 1935.

Fascinating; now the hard part, namely finding the rest of Mr. Lippert's innovative (and complex) gas cap.

Well, there's page two.
He had several patents.
