POR 15 question
I have a quart of POR 15 left over from some project, and was thinking of using it to seal a trunk floor. My question is, can you apply it over a solid paint that has been roughed up for tooth ? Thank you Fordbarners.

Re: POR 15 question
The general view here when that question was asked is "NO", not a good idea to use POR over paint.

The floor in fact had small pin holes in it. After sanding the area including the old paint to give "tooth" POR15 was applied and it did in fact fill the pin holes. There was not any top coat applied as this area is covered with floor mats etc. To this day there are not any issues with the quality of the coating.

Re: POR 15 question
Ditto on the inside of the cab, doors, and bottom side of my F1s cab and fenders. To ensure loose stuff is removed I used my 4.5” grinder with a stiff wire wheel. Then I brushed it on and it laid down nicely. Amazing paint.

Re: POR 15 question
Thank you Fordbarners for sharing your experience. Sounds like the POR-15 would work ok over an existing paint, providing the painted surface is solid, clean & roughed up for tooth. It would not work if the paint base was loose or rusty underneath as it may eventually come loose, along with the POR on top of it.

Re: POR 15 question
Use in a well ventilated area. It's great stuff and the safest way to use it is to brush it on. Wear old clothes and use rubber gloves. As others have said if it gets on your skin you will wear it for a long time.

Re: POR 15 question
Only as good as the adhesion of the paint underneath. It's much better on bare metal. Wear gloves when using because this stuff is murder to get off your hands once it dries. You have to let it wear off.

Re: POR 15 question
It depends on what the current paint is. Some paints are easily lifted by the solvents in other types of paint. Try it on a small spot and see what it does.
