Need a clue about basic metalworking
I bought a replacement front seat from Glide Engineering several years ago. Finally got around to having it upholstered and was set to install it but the bottom brackets were the wrong size. Glide made new ones from scratch (gratis) but the holes are about 1/8" too short front to back.
Short of sending it back, this seems like it should be a simple fix. Unfortunately I am clueless about how to go about it. I have a fair assortment of automotive, power and woodworking tools, but no drill press, welding equipment or anything like that. Material is steel, about 1/8" thick. So, is this a job for a grinding bit and power drill/Dremel or what? I would like to do this without screwing up the piece further. Or do I just take it (and my wallet) to a welding shop? Thanks. Re: Need a clue about basic metalworking
Install one set of screws/bolts, line up the bracket, clamp it near the other set, and use the existing holes as a drill guide for the second set.

Re: Need a clue about basic metalworking
I would elongate each hole with a rotary file in a drill motor or
even a rat tail file for that little bit. Bob |

Re: Need a clue about basic metalworking
a fine tooth rat tail file will be fine for elongating the holes, seat frame metal is fairly hard, that's why I said use a fine rat tailed file
