Re: 600-16 tires where to buy Model A
The only source for any 16" bias-ply car tires are antique tire mfrs / merchants.
I've been scouring the web for about a year now, looking for tires for my 1941 De Soto (6.50 - 16) and my '50 Studebaker truck (7.50 - 16), and the only source for the car tires are folks like Universal and Coker (the tire offerigns are the same)... you might catch a price break ordering their tires through Summit Racing or JEGS, but they just aren't cheap anymore. I've been getting my antique tires from Universal for about 15 years now. Their prices are as good as anybody's and their service has been very good. |

"INEXPENSIVE"! HAAH! Ol' Bill took 'em his 16" wheels & new tubes & bought 4 Coker Classsics, blackwalls. Cost the poor dude $671.00 plus change, "out the door"! NOT a "FUZZY" feelin' Needless to say, but we runnin' an oooold Lester tire fur a spare. It's really ooold, but it's soft & NO cracks. It says on the tire in raised letters, "ONLY TO BE USED ON CARS MANUFACTURED BEFORE 1948"! Yes, we put the valve stem goody at the top & put the WARNING letters at the top too! FUN STUFF! Doesn't take much to entertain us, more fun than bendin' cotter keys "JUST RIGHT"! Buster T.

Re: 600-16 tires where to buy Model A
Make sure they are rated for "highway use"... some ag tires are for "off-road use only"...
Also beware of using a tire with construction heavier than 4 plys... 6 ply or heavier tires are for really heavy cars or trucks... In the case of the 7.50 x 16 tires for my Studebaker truck, I did find sources other than Universal / Coker... I found them in brands such as STA, Tornel, and Greenball (???), but they still ran about $150/casing... and those are 6 or 8-ply truck tires that I wouldn't want to run on a car... You might get lucky and find someone in your local classifieds, penny-shopper, Craigslist, etc. wanting to unload some 16" "take-offs" at a reasonable price... |

Re: 600-16 tires where to buy Model A
Gary check with Les Schwab. I sold a 50 Dodge PU to a local guy a few months back & it needed two tires, they were 600-16s. He bought two from Les Schwab & said they were very reasonable. We may come over to Whidbey on Sat.

Diamondback sells a nice 600-16 replacement size. Black wall with no lettering or white wall.

Check out Goodyears available thru Kelsey Tire (among others). I've heard nothing but good things about them and their Deluxe All-Weather tires match tread and sidewall designs from the mid 30's through the 1940's. They're available in white or blackwall designs.
