'35 Generator and cutout Temperature
Took the '35 for a nice drive today. Back home and checked under the hood for any leaks. Noticed that the generator body and cutout were very hot to the touch (148 degrees F.) Never really noticed that before. Is this normal on a flathead or is there a generator problem? Thanks, Mike

What was the ambient temperature out doors ? 148 doesn't sound to much. JMHO

kube, I read through the post on a hot cutout. Understood most of it. This cut out has been modified with a voltage regulator. I think i am going to keep an eye on the gen/cutout temperature after I drive the car. This hot generator may not be a problem. It seems to be charging great. Thanks guys for all the help and responses.

When driving along what amps reading is showing on your ammeter ? For daylight driving the generator third brush setting should show about five amps on the ammeter and no more. If the reading is high (15 amps ) then the generator will get hot. If your cut out is a FUN PROJECTS type modern regulator then it will show only a couple of amps charge on the meter without headlights being used. Regards, Kevin.

Kevin, Thanks for the reply. My ammeter, when I drive, is around 20 amps. From you response that is too high and probably the reason why the gen/cutout is so hot. I will now move the third brush to get the charging rate lower. Thanks for your help. Love the Barn. Learn something new each time. Mike
