56 dash question, extra hole?
Got the dash out and cleaning it up for primer. I now have a extra hole in the dash where the ignition originally went. I am going with a steering column that has the ignition on the column so have no need for the dash ignition. Question is what do you do with the old ignition hole? I could add another lighter power port but two would look dorky. I could cut it out and fill it in but that is a fair size chunk to cut out. Anyway any ideas? Thanks

Re: 56 dash question, extra hole?
When I bought my 58 Chevy wagon, it had dealer installed a/c in it, with an air vent at each end of the dash, down low. Most of the a/c was missing, so I sold what was left. I welded up the holes, working upside down (the dash doesn't come out). That was fun, but you can't tell it. The holes were very large.

Maybe a cover as shown below? Paint To Match?
They were commonly used back when. |

Re: 56 dash question, extra hole?
I used plugs like Kultulz shows above. NAPA had flat black or chrome to chose from.

Put the original switch and trim ring there for looks, just not connected to anything. It could confuse somebody trying to steal the car.

Re: 56 dash question, extra hole?
Now you know I would be the first MOE-RON to try and figure out why a two-sided key will not fit the old cylinder ...

Add a choke cable there.

Use the key on the column for ignition and install a push button in the dash to engage the starter.

Re: 56 dash question, extra hole?
get a knob that matches the rest in the dash and epoxy it to whatever you put in the hole and it will blend in with the rest.
