Default How to shorten a bolt Mart's way. Includes some pain and bonus outtakes!

Hello! Welcome to a handy tip courtesy of Mart at Mart's Garage.
This is a method of shortening a bolt that worked well for me. I thought it would make a handy tech tip short stand alone video so I fired up the camera.
Well, watch along and see how it panned out.
If you're wondering, I didn't hurt myself badly.
Mart.

Perfect - sometimes (depending on the bolt material and size) I'll take the file and file the nut flush with the bolt and then proceed with your steps. Sometimes I'll even put it on the grinding wheel. One last thing I usually use two nuts on it so I can lock them in place. All depends on how picky I need to be. Thks for the video

I liked the video too. I am a big fan of nylock nuts so I often add a couple of washers under the nut for cutoff.. That way the nylon insert is allowed to come into play when the final nut is installed. As often stated, the nylock won't pass judging at a points meet, but I like how they feel when I crank them down. Verrrry bumby roads where I live.

That's the way I do it.
I even rack my knuckles on the vice too.

I can sympathize with the knuckle. So I use a cut off wheel with my dremel. After the cut, I clean off the end with the dremel by holding and turning the bolt against the flat of the cutoff wheel.
