After teaching and working on electrical stuff i from time to time see the need for some discussion......
Electrical is very much mis understood !! I read a lot of magazines and have just about given up on many based on the pure marketing and ads pages being out of line. However i just this year subscribed to Street Rodder Magazine based on finding myself in agreement with many of the editors articles etc. I read every word in each issue and offer my thoughts to the editor in a email each month.
This months street rodder has a great article in in regarding electrical especially alternators and acc. Everything discussed in this article ( 12 volt) would apply t the early Ford driven each and every day.
A really good discussion regarding idle speed output and system voltage drop from alternator to the battery.

Ex: A check of some electric cooling fans drawing 32-35 amps when on at idle. You can bet a flathead idling at 500 rpm would have trouble charging on that one to keep the battery up..

Another issue is heat ! The average alt lost 20% at 195 degrees?????
The latest issue is December and ya should pick one up just for this article. Its worth the time to read ....
