Plus long term cost savings, do not have to buy gas and lots of free scrap wood/brush just laying there. Eventually would pay for the conversion.

But consider the alternative: Horses or oxen pulling an even smaller payload at far slower speeds! Plus you can't shut a horse off. Its always idling, burning a lot of hay when not working.

I wonder if burning wood laying on a forest floor or pine clones creates less of a "carbon footprint" than using fossil fuels? Do pine clones release their carbon as they decay on a forest floor?
Maybe in the future historic cars will be banned or severely limited in use (in Europe especially because of Greta) to reduce climate change. Old cars that burn pine clones rather than fossil fuels might escape such restrictions?
