To use or not to use...
I have a nice block that I want to rebuild but upon review of it and some sanding I found these two surface cracks in the middle. I say surface because they do not show on the cross sections of the water jackets. I do not know if it leaks because I got the block this way and was told it ran 20 years ago. Is it salvageable or a boat anchor?

Re: To use or not to use...
A picture of the entire block surface would be nice. I would say your ok if I knew the exhaust port is not compromised. Can we get another shot of the entire surface? Those seem to be more open than most cracks bolt hole to water jacket. Some holes open to the center exhaust passageway. Those are killers. If not an exhaust problem, pinning those is ideal, but maybe not necessary. I'd be less concerned if the crack went to only one water jacket hole. JMHO
A coconsensus would be helpfull. A pressure test even more so. Edit: lost track of which forum I was on. Was thinking V8. Some of the above is still relevant. Last edited by Russ/40; 06-24-2019 at 11:15 AM. |
