Car Y block vs truck Y block
I know that when you have a car Y block and want to use it in a F100 that the truck front mount has to be used from the truck.
But are the timing chain covers the same that only the mount has to be added to the car motor or do the timing cover also have to be swapped to mount the truck front mount? |

Re: Car Y block vs truck Y block
You need to use a truck timing cover also. The lower bolt hole bosses are slightly different. Also dip stick is re located to middle right side of block.

Re: Car Y block vs truck Y block
Where is the dip stick on a passenger Y block car located? In the timing cover?

http://ford-y-block.com/Block%20identification.htm The 'truck' (and 55/57 t-bird) timing covers have extended shoulders on the four lower bolts for attaching the front motor support bracket. There are a couple variations of that bracket depending on the year or ? The dipstick holes are in the block. The 'full-sized' cars used a front sump pan with the dipstick at the front. Whichever hole isn't needed is filled with a small soft metal plug. Many trucks (and 55/57 t-birds) used different rear sump pans with a dipstick at the center of the right side of the block, or sometimes mounted to the right-hand / pass. side of the pan itself. The dipstick tubes are different and I assume the actual dipsticks are as well. Last edited by dmsfrr; 12-30-2019 at 02:54 PM. |

Re: Car Y block vs truck Y block
Yes my mistake. I got about 12 y blocks sitting around here and never paid attention. I do remember the fun trying to get the tiny plug in the truck block though to use with a car pan.

Re: Car Y block vs truck Y block
the car dipstick and tube is not the same as a truck but i have seen them used.there are 3 or 4 dipsticks and tubes that go together with the base.you often see them mixed up so you dont get the proper reading.
