Re: blown head gasket
take the radiator cap off and then start it up. Look for bubbles in the water. Check the oil and if it has a mucky cloudy look, that is water getting into the oil. If so, you might want to retouque your head a few more times to see if it seals up. A really good quality copper gasket and tack spray helps as well. Good Luck !

Re: blown head gasket
Perform a compression check. All 4 cylinders should within 5 lbs.

Re: blown head gasket
Thanks guys, no bubbles in water and beautiful clear oil which is new at start up of engine...what set me off is steam and some water at start up..after about one minute of running the steam goes away as does water..re torqued head bolts this morning to 55 foot pounds..I only had them at 50 for fear of stripping bolt..maybe I'm just paranoid with this brand new $5,000.00 engine...it has only been run four times for half hour to hour...runs good..thanks for help..Dick

Re: blown head gasket
Time to retorque the head if you have let the new motor warm all the way up a few times.
I did have a head gasket leak water into a cylinder over night, motor would hydro lock almost when starting. Now that was a good bit of water coming out the pipe! |

Re: blown head gasket
"steam and some water at start up"
this is normal behavior for any internal combustion engine. Good idea on the re-torque! never hurts
