Default Header and intake combo question

I have a new header built by Red's before they apparently went out of business. A upside down Model A intake manifold barely fits and frankly, looks like crap. What do you guys use for an intake, and what kind of down draft carb? All I have is a Z head, so I don't need to move a whole lot of fuel to make it run. I am thinking a Stromberg 94 would be WAY overkill.

Maybe a 26-27 intake could be made to work and make an adapter to fit the carb. It would need to be clamped in place somehow. https://www.modeltford.com/item/6251.aspx
Or..

Or flip this one over and grind off the Winfield;

Yes, I have seen the intakes in my Lang's catalog. The upsidedown Winfield seemed the most do-able.
I have also toyed with the idea of cutting up the Model A intake and using the flanges with some custom bent pipe. Model A intakes are a dime a dozen, so what would I have to lose? I think I could then use an updraft carb. The runners would be longer, like the manifolds on the old Dodge/Plymouth slant six engines. I just hate for it to look to hokey...and not work.

Any manifold that fits a model A can be made to fit easily. You can even take a model
A intake and weld a flange on the top of it and use a down draft carb. I have had good
luck with a 1 barrel carb from an early Ford six cylinder.

Is the headder the only thing they made? There's no Red's intake to go with it?

At the time, I was just shopping for the header. I think Red's was only in the bent pipe business. I don't recall any other speed equipment advertised.

I used a vaporizer manifold setup and a VW bug carb.
I made this setup about 10 yrs ago just to see if I could make it work.
It works so good I never changed it back.
You have to make a 90* adapter so you could make it fit a Winfield or anything you want to be period correct.
The VW seems like a very small carb but it works really well.
I figured the T is about twice the cu. in. running half the rpm.

Hey Bob do you have to run a fuel pump with the VW carb?

Bob,

I am a VW and T guy, been wanting to getaway from the vaporizer, I can't stand it. So I have everything to do the swap you did and like it. But three questions if you don't mind. What jet size did you use? Any fuel pump? (like Randal asked.) and how did you do your linkage?
