Is there much difference between 38 and 40 sixty horse engines? Neither is a tin side.

Ford kept improving them so the 1940 has some good improvements. The late bottom end is the best of the bunch.

Perhaps just a bit off subject but if you are asking with the thought of utilizing one of these in a prewar Ford, you may want to rethink that.
These engines are dreadfully underpowered. They are cute and make great displays but in an actual driven car? Yech...

Back in the '60's I had a '37 "Tin-Side" I was thinking about putting in a snowmobile (back in those days, 20 HP was about the most you could get). Some measuring and weighing put a quick end to that idea.

Obviously never drove one.... Saw a guy selling one at a swap meet. I guess I was awed by the sound and the look. I've heard that can happen with a woman as well. Glad I only fell for the poser motorcycle.....

Tubman that’s funny. I own about 10 v8/ 60’s & tons of parts. (Don’t know why) just more of my sickness. I almost have enough parts to build an NOS engine.

A friend of mine, Dan (rest his soul) put one in a Harley about twenty years ago.
It looked like the bike was born with that engine and trans. Sounded so cool. Yeah, slow as heck but the cool factor was definitely there.

Also, if you do plan on using a 60 HP V8, and you put it in a car that previously had an 85 HP 221 V8, you will need a lot steeper rear axle ratio, or you will have a hard time getting the car to move. Sal |
