Default Proof that the old car disease has no cure.

Hello, my name is Don and I am an addict. I realized a few years ago that I would not live long enough to finish building all the old cars and trucks I have been accumulating over the years, so I started selling them. I got them down to 5 nice cars and 5 needing restoration or junk.
So, finally getting them downsized, I decided to sell one more. While looking through the want ads trying to judge what it might be worth, I see this ad for a 48 Ford coupe. Being a sick addict, I have to at least go look at it. I have a couple of hot rods and I really wanted an original, stock car. This one has been repainted and reupholstered but otherwise stock.

You can fill in the rest of the story... instead of getting rid of a car, I ended up with one more. But....it was so solid and straight. Been sitting a few years until the brakes went out and the tires went flat, but I got offered a deal I couldn't refuse. I always liked the 46-48 coupes and I was born in 1948 so how could I pass it up??
I am going to have to move one of my other cars back into storage so that I can put this one inside and fix the brakes, clean out the gas lines, etc.
So, I finally realize that there is no cure. I will be afflicted with this terminal disease until the day I am in the grave.
Life is good.........

That looks real nice. Boy, can I relate to what you're saying, especially with this one.

This sounds like my attempts to sell off some of my accumulation of parts at swap meets and then I end up buying more stuff at the same swap meet.

There are worse things you could do. Just that cars take up so much space. Require a lot of work, maintenance. Imagine how nice it would be to have only one or 2, and really baby them. Jay Leno has so many cars, it seems like he does not even have time for them.

He doesn't - that is why he has an employee to take care of them. Wouldn't be surprised that he has more than one employee.

Yeah, I wish that I had Leno's garage space (and talent). As it is now, something is going to have to sit outside for a while.

Beautiful 48! And looks easy to get roadworthy.
One more car won’t hurt, at least that’s what I keep telling my wife

Agree!!! Beautiful '48. Also have to confess being a little partial to that body style.

Looks to be very original....a great candidate for a Dearborn.....while you're at the Henry Ford Clinic??

Original? While it appears to be a nice old car, it is hardly original... the interior has been redone and not authentic.

I like these cars too and have had a couple. The '47 and '48 coupes seem to pop up rather frequently and can be had on the cheap.
A decent old car and cheap? What's not to enjoy?

Have fun!

Mike, bet you could take this one back to "original", or very close if you were so inclined!!! (Realize this isn't your favorite year or body style, but nobody can argue with what you do!!!!) At least this one hasn't been hotroded!!

Dick.

No doubt about about it. You're a sick man, BUT you've got lots of company here. Good for you 34. Life is good, even with the terrible old car disease.

What I have found is that we belong to clubs and have a lot of old car friends. We find something we like and we talk amongst ourselves or on the Barn and it’s like trying to stop drinking in a bar with a bunch of alcoholics. We all have our enablers, so it is hard to find a cure.

Great looking car. Would love to have it in my garage. You have it bad and are definitely incurable.
