White House National Christmas tree
Off subject, But I just got to see the first viewing of the tree in a local parade near its origin, Sweet Home , OREGON. Big local parade, all Americana, bands, horses, log trucks, heavy equip for logging, fire trucks, Santa Claus, and carolers. A night parade with lots of light on everything and the marchers. So now the 82 ft Noble Fir begins its cross country trip to Washington D C. The Noble Firs have spaces between the branches and are very special to us locals, they are a high altitude growing tree. They don't look like a bush. Enjoy all of you. Newc

Re: White House National Christmas tree
Great area! Drove through there two years ago with a friend to pick up a yellow and white '47 mack short logger that was on CL. Anyways, I love parades, proud Americans and the red, white and blue, and of course Christmas and Christmas trees. I'm glad places like Sweet Home still exist.

Re: White House National Christmas tree
Newc you say it doesn't look like "a bush".......is it more like "a trump?" ( thinking of where it is headed).

Re: White House National Christmas tree
An 82' Noble Fir tree spends its honorable life growing in inclement weather in the American Northwest, and will continue to serve honorably in death, ironically at a place where inclement weather trumps Honorable Service.

Re: White House National Christmas tree
Recheck. The outside tree in President's Park behind the White house is a permeant tree. Trees inside the white house are not. As the sky trackers sez this is the tree for the front lawn of the Capital.
I and a small group of Patriots run large scale trains around the National Tree. We have been doing this for 25 years. National Christmas Tree Railroad http://www.nctrr.com/ |

Re: White House National Christmas tree
Thanks. I love the event. We start after the tree is lit and rune train from 10am-10pm.We get them running and they run all day long on their own. We show up in the evening a shut them down at 10 pm. We park the locos in engine shed's. Everything else is outside.
I love talking to the crowds. |

I too like trains, while not as prestigious as your train at the White House we (Sumpter Valley Railroad) run a Christmas train each year but ours is just a bit bigger scale, in these pictures is our 1915 Heisler geared logging locomotive. There is nothing quite like pulling throttle on a steam locomotive. |

Re: White House National Christmas tree
I'm a train guy too. Flathead put away for winter, so 3 rail & s gauge layout fill the nasty Ohio winter days. Most of the scale autos on the layout are 40 & 50s FORDS.
Love live steam too. Flatheads & steam engines each have an aroma that gets your attention. Great post, thanks. |
