Re: 80th anniversary for the 1936 Ford
Our family acquired this 36 Deluxe 40+ years ago when I was a teenager. Actually my dad bought the car and through family moves and need for storage I have been the lucky "Owner" of the car for about 30 years. We lived next to the RR tracks and my brother and I would drag race the car along the tracks on a service road. The car never would start on its own so we pushed it off, but then it would really go. As I remember we blew first gear in our racing.
As a teenager my dad had me disassemble the car to have it painted. Well the guy did some work as evidenced in the pictures and then stopped. The car has been in this condition for more than 40 years! I have lived in and out of the country most of my adult life, married, raised a family and am now in the process of restoring the car. I started the restoration last year and on second day of work had an unexpected detour when a heart valve failed and went to the hospital for a month. I think I'm up to the task again finally. My wife loves "Humpty" as she calls it. My dad is 86 and I plan to have it restored and sitting in his driveway before he passes. It was always a sore subject that it was never put back together. |

As a friend of mine says, it's loaded with "potential". You'll always remember this part.

Oh man, what a shame! Engine fire? Damage looks quite extensive.

Here is a larger photo of your 1936 Ford Telephone Truck. Seems like you can't exit the Drivers side, on account of the Ladders? |

Re: 80th anniversary for the 1936 Ford
What a shame, but it does seem like it is salvagable? Looks like the Pickup parked next to the Coupe also got damaged in the fire. |

Re: 80th anniversary for the 1936 Ford
Both truck and car total losses...Hats off to Hagerty insurance for being an exceptional company! After tearing down the coupe, saw where the fire originated from the battery leads shorting out on frame from possible rodent's appetite for electrical wire. Normally leave these two in my attached garage, but just one day exposed and look what can happen. Battery cut-out now religously applied on re-placement car.

The most popular model, the Fordor Touring Sedan... And possibly the most useful model, the Convertible Sedan...

Mercman:
Thanks for enlarging picture, how is that done? As far as ladder on drivers side goes the company for safety reasons didn't want people exiting or entering from the street side. Thanks, Bob |

Re: 80th anniversary for the 1936 Ford
No one hurt ,but I can remember thinking to myself as I stood there by the corner of the barn with a garden hose, trying to put this mess out, that at any minute this could blow up and really make my day. The real agony of this was when I finally got the hose up to the cars and turned it on and nothing came out because of the many kinks in the line and by now the fire was multiplying so fast it was overwhelming. What do you do? Only the car was on fire to begin with. Did you ever think about trying to move the truck out of the way, or run to get the hose and fire extinguisher and put this out and save that '36 3 window coupe? Bad day in hell...But still makes great yard art!

Re: 80th anniversary for the 1936 Ford
During the 2014 Early Ford V-8 National Meet at Springfield, Illinois, my 1937 Ford was out of action with a bad carb problem. Ken Bounds, Tom O'Donnell and KenCT tried to help me over the phone. No dice. The car stayed at home.
Grant Fleming of Canada had trouble with his 1936 Roadster and was not going to come to the meet. Ken Bounds talked Grant into coming to the meet without his 1936. Ken had a couple cars registered for the meet and he was kind enough to offer me and Grant the use of his 1936 Ford Roadster for the Route 66 Tour. Great tour and a great time. Thanks a million Ken; thanks Tom and also Randy Stewart (who also tried to help me). Here is a photo of Ken's beautiful 1936 Ford Roadster. Last edited by TonyM; 12-13-2016 at 03:53 PM. |
