Default 34 wiper motor

Hi folks, I am about to buy a mighty wiper for my 34 tudor. Can anyone tell me what shaft length I need and if there is any advantage between straight and tapered shafts? Ken

Hi Ken, what's a 'mighty' wiper? Do you have a stock wiper motor in your car? I can measure the shaft on mine if that would help.

Ken, the shaft on the 33 is about 1/4 diameter, with a small taper on the end and about 3/16 dia thread. the shaft,I cant measure as its in the car,but it sticks out about 3/4 from the body,
let me know if you want a pic .

1934, the mighty wiper is the only electric wiper motor I know of that fits behind the header panel with no modification. comes in 6 or 12v. They offer several different shaft lengths. I don't have an original vacuum motor for comparison. I did however find out that Drakes offers them for 28 to 39 fords and the shaft length for those years is 1.5 inches. He offers it in both tapered and straight shaft. I think I may go with tapered since I could use his modern type arm and blade for better function. Thanks everyone. Ken

You will want the 2" shaft.

Straight shafts do not have provisions for any wiper arm. The Universal clamp on mount arms are commonly used. To use an original style wiper arm you will have to machine the groove for the arm saddle and drill for the arm pin.

Tapered shafts allow the use of 1937-40 style arms with the retainer nut, which are cleaner looking than the clamp on arms.

There are 1941-48 spline adapters available for both straight and tapered shafts.

There are a variety of arm-blade connection styles. Make sure you get ones that are compatible and its a good idea to make sure you document what type so (hopefully) replacement blades will be available.
