Whiny transmisio
Hi, I don't drive my Coupe often. Got her up for sale. Recently a friend gave her a go ( Cape Codder) he made note of the whiny Trany. I'm giving it some thought and I guees it is noisier than my 30 pickup, especially in reverse. Any thoughts thanks

Re: Whiny transmisio
Ford suggested to drain, flush, and refill the transmission I think every 1500 miles.

Re: Whiny transmisio
Probably just wear. Bearings, gears? If it stays in gear and shifts ok, then not worth taking it out and apart. IMO. As big hammer said , change oil and make sure it’s the correct thickness.

Re: Whiny transmisio
I think I should say, I think this happened after I reinstalled the engine after it was worked on. But to be honest I don't recall if it made noise before but I'm sure it was not as noticeable before. This is a nice smooth running A.
I have installed at least 6 model a engines so I o have some experience. My goal here is to identify the problem, if it is serious and willing to yank the engine if need be. I love working on them however I don't want yank the engine if it does not call for it. |

They all could make noise. Likely only one.

Re: Whiny transmisio
With the clutch pedal disengaged the throw out bearing should not be turning if you have the correct free play. Does it whine when the clutch is out? If so, it is not the TO bearing.

Re: Whiny transmisio
Haha, so I think I have it figured out. So here it is, perhaps this info will help someone down the road. Bad revers idler, it is a gear in the Trany. I'll switch it out and let those who want to know what happens. Cheese makes me fart!
