Notice that the Bumper Guards are spaced much wider apart on the Mercury than they are on the similar year Monarch.
Just thought that this was an interesting observation?
Ford and Monarch were quite similar in those years but by 1949 there was no mistaking a Monarch for a Ford.

1949 Monarch Sedan - Thanks Ralph for sharing.
What is unusual is that in 1949, for the first time, Lincoln offered a more economical Lincoln that used the Mercury body but with a longer front clip, in addition to the regular upmarket Lincoln.

I received this shot of a '46 Mercury 114 Station Wagon taken in Oceanside, California from a friend. It was taken ten years ago. It sat outside in Alberta Canada for years before it made its way to California. These 1946-1948 Mercury 114 models don't come any rarer than this.

That would be OK if they lost they wheels and surfboards. I am not a fan of ostentation.

I have never seen the honest production numbers of 114X's, especially by body style. Newc

Regarding Production Numbers for the 1946-1948 Mercury 114, I just read these lines in the Website:- https://www.ford.ca/about-ford/herit...ds/mercury114/

Post-War Fords - Mercury 114
In 1939, the 703 Ford dealers across Canada sold both Fords and Mercurys. A few dealers sold Lincolns. After World War II, Ford of Canada split their dealer network into two divisions. Existing dealers sold Ford, the new Monarch, and Ford trucks. A new branch of dealers sold Mercurys, imported Lincolns, and a new line of Mercury trucks. By 1947, Ford Motor Company of Canada had 1,113 dealers, 353 of which were Mercury-Lincoln outlets.
Because Ford was in the low-priced field, it was more popular in Canada than the medium-priced Mercury. So that the new Mercury dealers could get a piece of the low-priced action, a smaller lower cost Mercury line emerged. This new Mercury needed a name to set it apart from its larger sibling. So, it bore the title Mercury 114 - a reference to its Ford wheelbase in inches. Therefore, the larger Mercury was known in Canada as the Mercury 118, its wheelbase length.
This new car was really a Ford, but with Mercury-style grille, tail-lights and trim. For the grille to fit onto the Ford front, it had a totally different frame around the vertical Mercury bars. Below this grille was a chrome section with two long openings which substituted the lower air-intakes of the Mercury 118 design.
A unique point on the 114's grille was an embossed head of the god Mercury just below the "Mercury" nameplate. Another 114 grille feature was the lack of E-I-G-H-T spelled down the middle.
There were small round parking lights below the headlights of the Mercury 114. The shape and location of these lights bore no likeness to either the 1946 Ford or Mercury 118 parking lights. For 1947 and 1948 however, Ford used the Mercury 114 type parking lights.
Chrome trim on the 114's fenders consisted of double strips which were more like the 1942 Mercury than the 1946. Because of the pucker on Ford's front fenders, these chrome strips did not come all the way forward to the headlight rims as on the 118.
The Mercury 114 used tail-lights like those on the 118. But there were no chrome strips across the trunk door, which the 118 had. Instead, there was a chrome embellished trunk handle below the license plate bracket. A Mercury nameplate appeared above it.
Ford V-8 engines powered the Mercury 114. Displacement started at 221 cubic inches. After June 1946, 1/8th inch was added to the bore for a 239.4 cu. in. displacement. There were some unexplained discrepancies about output. Horsepower ratings were in the area of 93 to 100, unaffected by displacement changes.
Like Ford, the Mercury 114 came in DeLuxe and Super DeLuxe editions. DeLuxe offered Fordor Sedan, Tudor Sedan, and business coupe. Super DeLuxe (aka Mercury 114X) added a 6-passenger Sedan Coupe, convertible, and station wagon.
List prices for the 1946 Mercury 114 ranged from $1166 to $1583. These were about $25 more than similar Ford models. Production totalled 4573 for calendar 1946. That was not a large number, but all car-makers failed to reach desired production levels due to shifting to a peacetime economy.

Those numbers are listed in the R.Perry Zavitz book.
You never know when a new photo will turn up. I just found this one of a Lincoln Mercury dealership in Holdfast, Sask. Looks like the second from the right is a 114.

Just spotted what appears to be a 46 Monarch in this video shot in Alberta recently. At the 10:43 mark. https://youtu.be/7YEEjEaWmSE

Not much left on this Monarch. I think that it has seen its last days.
What is that 1953 Ford Customline Four Door on the left with no top, a Four Door Convertible?

If you look closely at the picture it identifies the dealership as Meteor Mercury Lincoln. And dated 1946! Truly visionary as Meteor was three years away from production! Or did I misinterpret the picture? Bill

You are right Bill. And the person who did the caption on that photo was wrong. Like so many others who seem to think Meteor and Mercury go together. True enough a couple of years later the dealerships were Lincoln/Mercury/Meteor. But in 1946-47 Meteor was just a dream in Ford's future. I have just been involved in a long and tedious discussion on a facebook group trying to explain it to some who are convinced Mercury Meteor is a brand. Or a Meteor is a "Canadian Ford" . That just implies that we didn't have Fords here, just Meteors. (We had both) I get a little tired of going over it again and again but the question keeps coming up.

Mercury 114 compared with the 118. The difference is ahead of the Firewall.

I just learned that the Canadian Mercury 114 came in two trim levels. The "deluxe" trim model was known as a Mercury 114X - as shown on this Glove Box lid on a 1948 Mercury 114X Sedan.
This was similar to the regular Fords that were also built on the 114 inch Wheelbase. In the Ford series, the base model was the Ford Deluxe and the upmarket model was the Ford Super Deluxe.
Meanwhile, the "full size" Mercurys built on the 118 inch Wheelbase only came in one trim level.
You learn something new every day.
In the 1946 Canadian Sales Brochure for the Mercury 114, there is no mention of two trim levels?

The Monarch convertible or "woody" wagon have got to be really rare if any survive today.

So if there are 4 more inches in the wheelbase of the US vs 47 Merc there must be differences in other sheet metal besides the very minor grille differences shown in the picture. Was it in the body and not the front end sheet metal? I never knew that there was a 118" wheelbase late 40s Merc. Only Merc I ever owned was a 53. Not surprising there were differences in trim.

The 1946 -1948 Ford and Mercury shared the same body. The extra length was ahead of the Firewall. If you look at the above picture, you will see that the Ford front Fender is one piece while the Mercury has a separate panel under the headlight - see crease. The Hoods are also longer on the regular 118" Mercury. Both model Mercurys (114 and 118) were sold in Canada.
Regarding that extra 4" in the Wheelbase, that really made a difference in Right Hand Drive models. Back in the 60's, the family car was a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan, while my car was a 1946 Mercury (118") Town Sedan. I remember that I had Starter Motor problems and it took all of 5 minutes to remove the Starter Motor, that was close to the RHD Steering Box.
My Dad had similar problems in his 1947 Ford, and what a drama it was to remove the Starter Motor. Firstly, he had to undo the front engine Mount, so that the Motor could be slightly tilted, then he undid the Steering Column at the Dash, so that it could be lowered slightly. It was an absolute nightmare on the short 114" Wheelbase Ford, while it was clear sailing on my 118" Mercury.
