This recently imported unrestored 1961 Ford Starliner is fitted with 1960 Ford "dog dish" Hubcaps. They still look good.

The next one in with the black around the outside is correct for the 1960 Fords. The third hubcap in is correct for the 1961 and 1962 Fords. This is the style that is correct for the above Starliner. Fourth is with all the lines around the edge is correct for the 1963 Fords. Second last with the cross bar is correct for the 1964 Fords, while the hubcap on the right is correct for the 1965 and 1966 Fords. I hope that this Ford "dog dish" identification helps.

Great pic and explanation! Neat to see the changes they made over the years.

yblock57 - I am glad that you liked my photo of the lineup of Ford Dog Dish Hubcaps that I added to this Thread.
By way of explanation, in Australia, the first year that Ford Australia offered Full Wheel Covers on the "big" Fords was the 1965 Ford Galaxie. Two model Fords hat were never released in Australia are the 1957 and 1958 models. In their place, Ford Australia continued to offer the 1956 Ford Customline, but with revised trim. After missing two years, we did catch up again with the USA with the locally available 1959 Ford Fairlanes, including a Wagon for the first and only time, but they all came with 15" wheels and Dog Dish Hubcaps. For the years 1962, 1963 and 1964, only the "Compact" Ford Fairlane was offered, and once again, all came with Dog Dish Hubcaps. Part way through 1964, a limited quantity of 1964 Ford Galaxies were available, but they all had Dog Dish Hubcaps. After the 1965 Ford Galaxie model, Ford Australia continued to offer the "Big" Ford Galaxies in 1966, 1967 and 1968. Then in 1969 through to 1972, Ford Australia offered the Ford LTD, and then there were no more. The only Body Style offered locally were the Four Door Sedans, however, the "last of the breed" 1971 and 1972 Ford LTD's were offered as Four Door Pillared Hardtops.

So in 59 60 61 Australian Full size Fords had 15" wheels and North America had 14" unless a Hipo/police/Taxi, maybe would explain no full covers. I've seen a lot of 67 Fords with the 65/66 hubcaps back in the day. Nice photos.

Cover and Back page with the Specifications - Australian 1959 Ford Fairlane 500, Custom 300 and Ranch Wagon Sales Brochure.
You will read:- "Tyres - Five 6.70 x 15 4-ply super balloon tubeless tyres standard on Custom and Fairlane Sedans (6.70 x 15 6-ply optional). Five 6.70 x 15 6-ply standard on Ranch Wagon".

Illustrations of the Custom 300 from the Ford Australia Sales Brochure for the 1959 and 1960-61 big Australian Fords. Unfortunately, for the purpose of showing the 15" wheels and Hubcaps, the Fairlane 500 was parked at such an angle that you can't see the Hubcaps. However, the Customs 300 was parked correctly so that the Hubcaps were clearly visible. Having said that, all Australian 1959 - 1961 "big" Fords came with 15" wheels and small "dog dish" Hubcaps and Wheel Trims tucked behind the Hubcap.
If you look at the top illustration of the 1959 Ford Custom 300, you will see that the Artist has drawn the car with 1956 Ford Hubcaps? The actual 1959 Fords did come out with the correct 1959 Ford "dog dish" Hubcap.
As Ford Australia spent big money on producing these cars in Australia, and offering a Station Wagon for the very first time, they weren't about to discard the stampings for an all new 1960 model. So, for the 1960 "big" Fords, it was decided to change the looks of the "new" 1960 model, so the Grille and Side Trim from the Canadian 1959 Meteor was chosen. This "new" 1960 "big" Ford did get the correct, new for 1960 "dog dish" Hubcaps.
This revised 1960 model was also carried over for 1961 with minimal changes.
In Australia, the 1959 and slightly revised 1960 and 1961 Fords sold for all three years.
In 1962, Ford Australia management and consultants thought that the "big" Fords were getting too big, so chose to replace these cars with the all new Compact 1962 Ford Fairlane, but that is another story.
The "true" 1960 and 1961 big Fords were never sold in Australia, which is a real pity.

This is the Cover of the 1959 Canadian Meteor Sales Brochure showing the different Grille treatment and Side Trim that Ford Australia applied to the revised model, so as to give the original 1959 Ford a new look for 1960.

The engine specifications seem to be a little incorrect. They say the 332 engine bore and stroke was 4.00 x 3.50. Pretty sure that's more like specs for a 352 V8.

I don't know the actual Specs of these engines, but the only engine that was available in the Australian assembled 1959-1961 Fords was the 332 CID. The 252 CID was never available locally.

Just to make it easier to compare the Specifications listed in the original Sales Brochures for these two years, I have enlarged the Engine Specs for the 1959 and 1960 Ford 332 V8 Engine.
For the 1959 model, the BHP is listed as 204 and the Torque 300
It increases for the 1960 model - BHP 225 and the Torque 325.
What is unusual is that the "ft" and "lbs" is reversed between these two models when listing the Torques?

The 332 had a 4.00" bore and 3.30" stroke. Pretty sure the specs have the wrong stroke listed.

Hi Scicala, I just looked up the Specifications for the 1959 Ford Engines, as listed in the Ford of USA Sales Brochure, and you are 100 % correct. I don't know how they got it wrong here in Australia. The 352 Engine was never offered in Australia, nor was any 6 Cylinder engine in the full size cars. The 292 was offered in the Australian 1958 big Fords, which were basically the 1956 Ford but updated with the Grille from the 1955 Meteor and the Side Trim from the 1956 Meteor. The "true" 1957 and 1958 Fords were never marked here in Australia. Likewise, Ford Australia never offered a full size Ford after these local 1959-1961 models until they introduced the 1965 Ford Galaxie. Then, from 1965 onwards we received updated models for every year until 1972. The 1972 model was the last of the big Fords sold here in Australia.

The Wheel Trims on the illustration of the 59 Custom are 1956 Ford dog dish hubcaps with chrome trim rims behind them. Ford did update the hubcap on the revised 1960 Custom 300 model to the correct dog dish hubcap for 1960 model Fords, again with the trim rim behind it.
As all of these 1959-1961 Fords got 15" wheels in Australia, they all came with dog dish hubcaps and trim rims.

Just a thought.

1958 CANADIAN FORD FE choices were the 332 and 361. No 352.

Specifications from the Canadian Sales Brochure for the 1959 Ford. Note that they list a 361 CID Thunderbird Special in addition to the 332 CID Engine?

Just checked the Engine Specifications for the Canadian 1959 Meteor, and they are listed the same as the Canadian 1959 Fords. In case Readers are not familiar with the Meteor, in actual fact, it is nearly identical to the regular 1959 Fords, but had a different Grille and slightly different Side Trim. The name Ford does not appear anywhere on the Meteor. The Meteor was sold in Canadian Mercury Dealers, at a price considerably lower than the regular Mercury models. To even the score, the Ford Dealers got the Monarch, which in reality was really a Mercury "under the skin". Like the Meteor, the Monarch did not have any reference to Mercury, and was sold by Canadian Ford Dealers to interested Buyers who wanted a more upmarket car that the regular Fords.
