Long shot, but your detent springs may be too long, bottoming out and preventing the shafts from moving.

Hopefully you did not accidently drop a bolt down in the transmission while you had the tower off. They will hide back by the reverse idler gear, then when you shift into reverse they will jam up and do some damage.

With the tower off can you move the gear out of reverse?

You said you put a new rear end in the car then the trouble with being stuck in reverse. Was it a rebuilt rear? Did you rebuild it with a new ring and pinion? The ring gear can be installed on the wrong side of the pinion causing only reverse!
Just a thought.

Not quite. The car would move forward with the trans in reverse.

If the ring gear is installed on the wrong side you would have 3 speeds in reverse and 1 speed forward

Make sure your shifter hasn't jumped out of position between the forks.

I did this when I was 16. When we discovered what we did, I wanted to fix it before any of our friends came by, but my buddy insisted on driving it around the block in reverse. He did and we fixed it real fast. Never got caught by our friends.

Thank you all, got it unlocked. Removed the tower, rocked the car back and forth while gently nudging on the aft gear and Walla it was free.
What a relief, thanks for your suggestions. New to Model A's, this web site and fellow club members really help us newbies with our problems.
