How can I tell if I have safety glass in my windshield?

They came standard with it, but if it has been replaced, it should have a mark on it in the corner.

laminated glass has multiple refections of coin, key, or candle flame etc when viewed clocely at an angle ... see pic
tempered glass more difficult to verify ...see thread https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...light=tempered/

If you tap safety glass with a nail the sound will be a dull low sound, but if it's plate glass it will have a high clear tink sound.

Re the side glass; check the edges first. My 29 Briggs Town Sedan had what looked to be original side glass in the doors and it was the safety glass or was era replacement. While the windshield was safety glass from the factory, what I picked up was some states had different requirements re glass by this time.

Had the same question on a Townsedan I bought that was restored. Heard about the sound difference when knocking on it so took it to a glass replacement business. The manager knocked on it and said it was laminated. Heard about the double image idea so angled a business card and it showed double. Being the doubting type and concerned about safety, I went ahead and pulled the top of the frame. "Low and Behold", it was plate glass. Replaced it before ever driving it again........

If you buy the 'glass' from most of the 'major' suppliers the new glass will meet the national standards. Still, it is a good thing to ask about when ordering.
