Default Closed cab bed mounting points

Good Evening everyone,

A couple of months ago we decided to lower our truck. When we took the bed off I thought it was funny that it only bolted in 4 spots. Am I missing something? At the front of the wood there is a hole with a counter sink to hide the nut and washer. But, it doesn't bolt to anything. Does any a picture that shows where the bed mounts near the cab?

Thanks,
Ron

I also thought there are only 4 used, but I am not sure - see below. I started looking at the bed pictures I have accumulated and noticed a bracket on the front of the bed I am not sure what is does - maybe attach the wood to the bed?? The bracket is riveted to the lower bed rails with 3 rivets. My 29 pickup was kludged up as far as the bed mounting is concerned, so no help there. Bratton's catalog PN 37070 shows 6 bolts in their box to frame bolt kit. Bratton's PN 37072 is their kit to bolt the bed to the wood it says (6 bolts also). So, according to Bratton's catalog, six bolts are use to fasten the bed to the frame and also six to fasten the wood to the bed. I am pretty sure the bolts in both kits are modern bolt and nuts, not quite like the original bolt and nuts. I would assume the bolts are fine threaded even though the description in the catalog doesn't state what kind of threads the bolts have, but it does state the size for the wood to box, but not for the bed to frame. If you have a Bratton's catalog, check the bolts out.

pooch,
Do you have pictures of where the bolts are located? I can see where four bolts go (two on each side), but not the last two. The front bolt is shown in the picture below. The rear bolt I have seen goes through the hole on the end of the rear frame crossmember. The last bolt on a side I have no idea where it would go. Any help would enlighten me.

Gary

Do you have a photo of the front mounting points? I tried to upload these earlier but it wouldn't let me. One shows inside the frame and the other outside the frame.

Rusty , I get 4 1/8th inches from front edge to centre of front square hole .

Mine looks like it has 6 original square holes ...never been messed with.

I would like to thank you all for the help. Thanks to William for the photos. I attached it and the silver bracket is what I am missing. I crawled under our pickup and found that both side are gone from the bend at the bed sides. I still have the riveted portion that has to be drilled out.

Thanks again,
Ron and Kari

Rusty , I just re read , you are after the rear 2 holes .

To that I dunno .

The main wood stringers end at the rear of the chassis and the tail light stalk is bolted to a separate block of wood on its own.

The rear steel just hangs in mid air out the back.

The 2 rear holes seem redundant .

Mine did come with full length stringers to add a bit of support at back, but these are not original, but I left them in .

My truck is a workhorse, not a show pony .

With Dan Partain's help, I now understand how the wood sill and bed is attached to the frame. The picture Ron posted above is what I took after Dan explained how it went together. Dan did tell me that there should be large D washers used between the head of the two bolts on the inside of the wood (on each side - four total) sill in the picture above. I don't have the D washers, but can make some if need be. I am posting a picture of the D washers below in case anyone else would like to see what they look like.
