Today dropped off both voltage regulators at local Auto Electrician for check and set up.
Called prior to drop off to confirm and they can do as have 6V generator etc in w/shop.
I am confident they will be correctly serviced and set up.
This time of year down under many places shut up shop for Christmas/N/Year holiday break .

The guy doing the work is pretty familiar with these units, ie recognised the blue top one as a Ford VR and quoted to voltage settings etc.
He is a Morris car man, older models, our first family car was also a Morris Minor Lolite so cant hold that against him. These days a little difficult to find that "old school" knowledgeable tradesman.

I know it's been mentioned that you need a good ground. I thought I had a good ground on mine with a clean connection to the firewall. Come to find out the path back to the battery was compromised through rusted metal to metal parts. Temporally run a direct wire back to the battery and see if that clears it up.

Solid ground connections are critical for proper operation - esp. with 6V system.

So update. The "new" blue top voltage regulator has been serviced and set.
Voltage was only atn just over 6v and amps was at 40 amp. Now set up at 7.2v and 30 A.
and doing as it should. My original " Blue Streak" regulator is still awaiting a little TLC at Auto Electrician. At least all is now up and running.
And looking forward to a planned "Coupe Run" in a couple of weeks.
For me this is the fun part. Meet will be at Reefton known in NZ as the town of light.
One of first towns where electric lighting was first installed.
