Timber under cab
Hey Guys,
Was having another think while I'm.away about things on the truck ( 42 1 1/2 tonne). There is timber supports under the cab that I need to have to secure the cab to the frame correct? If this is the case, is there anywhere to get the pattern from so I can make them? Looked in a couple of books and cannot find a reference to them, so I assume I need them. Appreciate any help. Re: Timber under cab
I am in the same boat as you I have a badly rotten one left on the drivers side so it wouldn't be a perfect replacement and if there is any other ones they were dust. Mines a 38 1.5

Re: Timber under cab
Yeah you of course have been looking like me, i can't see them in any of the online stores either.
Can anyone confirm if these will fit? https://www.macsautoparts.com/early_...kup-truck.html It says 40,41 not sure what the difference may be. Any help appreciated Cheers Corey |

Re: Timber under cab
Hi all; Note that the original wood blocks will have shrunk over time and maybe too small. This will show up in your hood fit and gaps. Newc

I would think someone would have a set of plans/templates for them. Cheers Corey |

There is a big difference between the 1/2 ton pickups and the big trucks when it comes to the cab mounting blocks. Attached are photos of the cab mounting blocks on the 40 Tonner. I used the original wood blocks as patterns to make these mounting blocks. I think I saved the OEM blocks and will check tomorrow to see if they're in my stash. Les Williams |

Corey
Attached are three photos which show the OEM cab wood mounts in the 40 Tonner. I'm led to believe that all the conventional truck cabs from 40-47 were the same so unless you have a COE these mounts should be what you're looking for. I won't be able to draft a set of drawings until mid September. If you need something sooner send a PM to GB Sisson here on the barn. He just finished building a one off 3/4 ton Woody from scratch using a 46 or 47 cab and might have replaced these cab mounts in the process. Les |

Re: Timber under cab
The frames have different part numbers for the 01 (1940/41) versus the 21 (1942/47) but they are similar. The cabs are also similar but where the fuel tanks are mounted can make a difference. The 194" wheel base truck was a post war only type. The body book for 1944 through 1952 has mostly 21C numbers for the floor structure of the cab from 1942 thru 1947. Heavy duty trucks would be body type T81 in that time frame. The part numbers may be in there but there aren't enough illustrations to be able to tell and most folks don't go by those numbers anyway.
Wesscott's is the only place that shows cab mounts for the 42 thru 47 but they may just be for the commercial pickup types but I don't know for certain. Last edited by rotorwrench; 08-27-2019 at 06:34 PM. |

Re: Timber under cab
Thanks Guys,
So the 40 to 41 are different ( but similar). 42 to 47 should be the same but have different timber mounts for the heavy duty trucks? Not sure how to confirm exactly what I need at this point. I will also go and look in the ford forum was suggested I assumed the cabs were all the same be it a normal or a 1 1/2 tonne, maybe I'm wrong though. Re: Timber under cab
The best way to put it is that they are very similar and with some small changes, they can interchange from one year model to another but I can't tell with any certainty of the trucks versus the lighter duty pickups. The trucks had a longer ladder type frame than the lighter 1/2 thru 1 tons. An there were two frames for the lighter ones due to wheel base differences. There have been some threads about the cab wood on the Ford Barn before but I can't find them to find what year models they were about. The jail bar trucks just aren't as popular as the earlier types and the 42 models are scarce unless you find the wartime military trucks that had the G 6-cylinder engines. They may have had to boost the cab up higher on the frame to get the proper wheel to fender clearance. I've found more pictures of G8T militarty trucks and SnoGo trucks than I have the civilian models as far as restoration stuff. Chuck's Trucks may be someone you could call. He restored the 4WD Marmon Herrington conversions and he may have done some restorations on them. Some of them may have been the larger trucks.

Re: Timber under cab
Cheers Guys,
And what timber would you suggest to make the mounts from? I would think it would be a nice hard wood, ( remembering im in Australia) Cheers Corey |
