Default rear wheels turn by hand with trans mission in gear

Just rebuilt and installed differential. I noticed I can turn the rear wheels with the transmission in 1st. gear. Is this normal?

If both wheels are off the ground that is normal. If one is on the ground you won’t be able to turn the other one more then a few inches.

If you can move both wheels in the same direction there's a problem, if they move in opposite direction it is normal---- that is showing that the differential gears are working
