Default Trip to the Tire Store

My daughter got a flat tire on her car. I took the tire down to the tire store the best way I knew how.

It made for interesting conversations with a bunch of folks, both customers and staff.

Another fun day with my Model A.

Ken

Never under estimate the usefulness of the Ford Model A! I took my 31 for two drives today

There's always a certain sense of satisfaction when someone in a Model A comes to the help of a modern motorist. Recently, I LOVED stopping to help a Rolls Royce owner (I know, many would say I shouldn't have) who had run out of fuel. The 85 year old car to the rescue was not lost on the RR driver. I made sure of that!

The guy at our local hardware store refused to load a bag of cement on my RPU. Told me to go get my wife's Toyota Fortuner instead.

As you can see from the picture, mine is a working man's car. I keep her mechanically solid, but I don't worry about the cosmetics except for the interior. She has decades of dents and scratches, every one of which tells a story.

I get the freedom to not pamper her. I use her to tow a busted lawn tractor, to carry logs thrown in the truck, or to transport a flat tire on the running board. Those scratches are how I add to her story.

I worked many year as NASA GRC and would see from time to time a green car just like this:

I wondered who's it was??? One day I saw it was parked at the building I worked in and looked in at the car and saw on the console this:

Turned out it was our local SGI tech who came to repair my SGI servers... I asked him, pardon me do you have any Gray Poupon? He said, but of course... I got to ride in that tank... you can really tell a HEAVY Car and how they ride

That's about the model RR I was talking about. Those 1970's RRs were rubbish. You can buy them for not much more than a slab of beer now.
PS A slab is a pck of 24 cans or stubbies and is almost legal tender here

You can buy those cheap and there's an outfit in Cleveland that will replace the suspension, AC and engine/transmission with GM stuff for around twenty grand. Makes for a great grocery getter.
