Default Sarah's new jewelry!!!

A little piece of jewelry now and then keeps them looking purdy and happy.

The 1931 Illinois Tax Disk arrived today but it needs to be first sent off and restored.

Great looking jewelry!

Couple of questions:
• What size are your plates?
• Where did you find the frames?

I have a pair of '31 Texas Commercial Plates that look to be that same size and haven't been able to find a frame for them.

Carl, got them off eBay just last week. 4 1/2 X 13 3/4 are the plate sizes and the circle size is 4in for the tax disk.. They were advertised as Illinois Model A 1928, 1929, 1930 and 1931 license plate frames. They came out of Chicago and....they are repops, the seller said antique used but they weren't so another set should hit the market again soon. Looks like they came out of the same mold as the originals though.

Looks nice but you need some prettier fasteners to go with all that bling

I've been looking but the letters are so close to anything used as a fastener. You have my mind working though.

Here's an original with original paint plates.

These were part of the Hartung auction a few years back.

And these

That's all I can find on my laptop right now.

Nice examples.............thanks. I was wondering if the Tax Disk would be displayed on top or on the bottom, I guess both ways was accepted.

Nice frames 31 Model A (and WTSHNN).

Do you have to display current year registration along with the YOM plates in Illinois? Like we do in California?

My CA Plate

Yes and no....the Illinois DMV site says one thing and the DMV says different...it's being clarified as I type.

I have numerous original plates and tags with the tags riveted to the bottom corners. I have two original plates with the tag riveted to the top center and I have one original with the tag mounted on the bottom center. So...dealer's choice.

This must have been a Chicago thing. All the disk I've seen are either Chicago or parts of Chicago, like Elmhurst. I was told that a Galena was once seen. I know if I had not have acquired the frames, I would have attached my 1931 Elmhurst tax disk to the lower left corner of the plate.

Those plates sure look nice! I found an old rusty '31 illinois plate at an antique mall last week for 5 bucks. I'm going to restore it and attach it to the front, and put my current plate on the back.

There has been two sets of Illinois 31s on eBay this week and Buy It Now for $45.00. Decent shape too.

In Illinois you don't have to display current plates but you need to carry them with YOM plates on your car as I was told

That was my understanding also until today when I went to have my antique plates renewed. I was told that YOM plates applies to those with Antique plates and not Extended Antique plates even though the criteria is the same. I think I was the first case that this DMV ever had. Seems YOM law came into existence in 2002 which included what the law says today as you stated above and I have stated and others also on another thread but..... the Extended Antique plates came into force in 2012 and the "wording" did not include "Extended Antique". It's actually how it's read and who's reading it that people have different views on what it says even though the criteria for purchasing the plates are the same, only difference being is the time and the circumstances for driving your antique car is different.
