Interesting question. I went back and checked the refurbish manual. Same as today, pressure tested. Little different equipment setup, but same test.

That looks like a 41 block to me, the so called raised intake manifold area. Could be slightly later if war year production, and I have no idea on the Canadian or overseas models.

Looks like it had a fair number of years in service after the rebuild by the condition of the exterior buildup of crud. The valley doesn't look very nice either with the sludge building up. You may have a good core to freshen up,but if it were me I'd take that one all the way down and see what I had. If you're lucky you may have something you can combine with your other engine parts to make a nice one.

Look around the top right corner and see if 99A is stamped into the "raised intake" area. If so, that is the good pre-war Merc. block that, generally, had thick walls. Only a sonic test will confirm how thick.

Agree with Terry. Looks pretty cruddy in there.

I'm doing research on the Authorized Ford Rebuilder network as my dad worked at Meyer and Welch, in Veron, CA after the war. I did a thread about it, a while back. I'm trying to collect pictures, of all the tags that I can find and any other info, that might be available.

If anyone has pictures, I would really like to document them for my files.

Here are a couple of others that I have.

Like like bore oversize and then each individual bearing on the crank. Interesting. The other numbers are bearing part numbers for the corresponding components.

Dick, here’s a picture of the one I have. This company may have been the closest facility for Factory Remans, being that we’re both not that far from Boston. Mine is #49139. Can you read the number on yours? This has the number high on the bell like yours but has a “59” down in the usual area. 59 A-B heads. It powered a water pump at the S.D. Warren paper mill in Westbrook........Mark

That is a very clean looking engine. 21 stud, no way a 59, 24 stud. Good point someone made about clean oil. I have had number of engines that sat for years, pull the dipstick and oil is clean as whistle, all the dirt settles to bottom of the pan. Cote Ford was large dealer in Mattapan, (Boston), on Cummings Hwy. They were very diversified and sold a lot of trucks.
