Re: Firewall insulator?
Don't know what "everyone" is using but I'm using the original pressed board outer layer backed by about 1/2' of what looks like period fiberglass insulation.

Re: Firewall insulator?
I ordered, and received a great fire wall insulator from Labarron Bonnie. It fit really well and looks great.

Re: Firewall insulator?
Bob Drake referred me to QuietRide Solutions for my 1942 Ford tonner. I ordered a firewall insulator recently but have not received it. They have a lot of custom fit products in their online catalogs.

Re: Firewall insulator?
The original was embossed panel board. I don't know of anyone that reproduces these in a panel board material. Quiet Ride's insulator kit is ABS plastic molded in the shape of the OEM parts with a fiberglass insulation attached as appropriate. These are shiny so I prep them and paint them flat black to more closely simulate the original card board. I would prefer if they ware made from fiberglass but that's all that's available unless you make it yourself.

Re: Firewall insulator?
I bought one for my 52 Merc from a place advertising on eBay. Very nice quality and close to original. I also ordered a package tray and kick panels. Seller name is collectorsautosupplyinc

Re: Firewall insulator?
Alright thanks guys I will check theses out. Quiteride looks nice I thought they had a leather material from them? Mac's says there's is plastic. Really don't want plastic.

Re: Firewall insulator?
OK, just did a search for quiet right solutions for a firewall insulator for a 47 coupe. When I tried to find pricing on it it said to look up a dealer , who sells these things?

Re: Firewall insulator?
I received mine for a 1942 one-ton. It fit perfectly and looks exactly like the original that had fallen apart in chunks. The holes in the insulator matched the originals in the firewall. It arrived quickly---approximately one week after I sent the order.

Re: Firewall insulator?
Drake and most of the other V-8 parts dealers have them. You sometimes find them on e-bay. Bought a new one on e-bay for $120 and free shipping for '40 pickup. It was from an abandoned project.

Quote:
They push into about a 1/4" hole in the firewall. There are many plastic push in panel clips that are available to fit various vehicles and you will have to do the leg work to find ones that are suitable.

Re: Firewall insulator?
Drake and other suppliers sell the repo metal clips to hold the insulator.

Re: Firewall insulator?
Got my firewall insulator today from Quiteride. Going to see how it fits this weekend and get some clips. I think http://shoebox-central.com/49-51-ford-parts has them.
