Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
I am trying to find a slightly longer fanbelt for my 8ba with the wide belt set-up. I would like to raise the fan ever so slightly but cannot find a belt that is just a bit longer than the Gates TR 26366 that I currently have. Anyone got any suggestions?

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
I may try these guys, mine is a little too short as well. I cut it and measured the total length and will add about two inches.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
I am guessing you measured the outer dimension of the belt. What length did you come up with?

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
Go to a big industrial type hardware store and get a "B" belt. They should have 3 or 4
types, plus inner and outer clogs. I have a number of old Fords and have used them for over 30 year and several hundred thousand miles. G.M.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
Assuming tha your belt measures appox. 37" the next best thing would be 38". that should move the location appox. 1/2".
Try looking for 5/8" wide belt- Gates# 258038

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
Sofaking thanks for going to the trouble to measure your belt but I think 51 Merc is on the right track. I am interested in the belt that runs the fan and it looks like you are after a water pump belt. Thanks to both of you.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
McMaster-carr has Gates wide (21/32")belts without the inside cogs in every even inch of circumference. My local NAPA store told me they couldn't get them without the cogs

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
The best my local NAPA store could come up with was a 24379 which measures 21/32 x 38-1/2". Unfortunately it sat a wee bit too low in the pulleys and was a bit too long - ran out of adjustment before the belt got tight enough.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
On my 8BA fan/crank pulley I am using NAPA FHP (Fractional Horse Power) Belt 5L270. It is 27/32" x 27 ". But, my set up is not stock. FHP belts may meet your needs. This may help you calculate the length of the belt you want. Your belts do not ride at the bottom of the "V" pulley.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll chase down some of these leads and see what I can come up with.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
Check out Grainger. I had same issue and got a great belt for about $20.00 if my mind serves me correctly. Nice variety of sizes and top quality.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
I order a generic machinery belt. For example for a 59A a B52 or B53 works well. If I needed something longer a B54 would get ordered. It ain't a secret. The letter refers to the section, the number to the length.

Re: Need help with a slightly longer fanbelt
Here is a Gates chart if it would help. This is for green stripe truck and bus belts.
The 11/16 should work ok. I use this width on my model A. Belts are listed by outside length-circumference. John Last edited by john in illinois; 02-22-2016 at 08:32 AM. |
