Default New to the Forum

Hey. I am new to the forum and just wanted to introduce myself. My grandpa has a 1931 pickup that is currently just sitting in his driveway. It will soon be moving over to my place. I already have all of the spare parts and the spare engine. Can't wait to work on it this winter so I can cruise around with it next spring!

Welcome! Consider adding a location and signature to folks know a little more about you. I know it's "scary" to do that on the Internet, but you won't have any trouble here. Have fun with your grandpa's pickup!

From the front, your '31 has a great look ! If the rest is same as front, I'd leave its' outside alone...as it is ! What 'instructions' did Grampa give you with this truck ?
Welcome , and show us MORE pictures to enjoy.

Hello, again! I got the truck shipped out here. Intercity Lines handled the transport.

Coming off the truck:

Here it is in the driveway:

Once I got a chance to work on it, I found it wasn't getting spark. I traced it down to a bad wire from the terminal box to the cut-out on the generator. I replaced that and got spark, but wasn't getting good fuel. Cleaned out the carburetor and got it to start! I took it for a little drive up the driveway to test it out:

It is still running a bit rough right now. The spark plugs had quite a bit of soot on them and one had some oil on it. It was also running a bit lean. I got new plugs and gaskets for the carburetor (the one between the intake manifold and the carburetor was missing for some reason). Hopefully that will smooth it out a bit.

Thanks, guys. It lives full time in my garage. My plan is to keep it looking as close to this as possible and keep it in good mechanical order.

Wow! I'm jealous. Just found a Model T buried in a shipping container. Mostly all there but this looks like you'll be driving it really soon. Good luck

WHY?? do many say, "Just leave it AS IS"? SCRUB it up really well, or folks will think you're a LAZY, NASTY PIG!! It will still have PLENTY of "PATINA"!
Some folks confuse "PATINA" with plain old NASTINESS!!! My Mamma would have a FIT!!

I will clean it up, but I'm not planning on painting it or anything. This is how it was when it was my grandpa's daily driver and my mom and aunts and uncles road in it as kids. I kinda want to keep it that way.

Sounds like a good plan. You were lucky to get such a good complete pickup, and know the history of it besides. Just keep all moving parts well lubed and the brakes adjusted, and you should have lots of good rides in it.

That missing carb to manifold gasket will make a big difference, and I always buy the thick copper gasket, like original.

I'm from Redwood City, originally, back when it was still a nice little city.
Left in '73, went to Sacramento area, left there when it too turned to crap, left in '98, it was already going downhill quickly.
