Re: best price on new 49-53 Edelbrock heads
GM: Don't know what the best price is today, but I bought two pair from AutoZone awhile back and they were $329----I got 425's. |

Edelbrock valve clearance
How many different heads does Edelbrock list for 49-53 and do the 425's have more valve clearance than the others? Like for a smiley cam? |

Re: Edelbrock valve clearance
I think Edelbrock only offers 1 compression ratio, 7.9:1 with stock Ford bore and stroke. "425" indicates how much valve lift is safe with that head, in this case .425". Don't know how much lift the smiley cam has, but it is probably less than .425". In any case, it is good practice to clay the valves with any set of aftermarket heads or stock heads if they have been milled. |

Thank you, that's very helpful. I didn't know the "425" indicated maximum valve lift. I'm sure whatever cam I end up with will be less than that. |
