Default Hood Fitment on 48 F-3

Ever since I bought the truck 14 years ago the hood has had this issue. Any hints on getting it adjusted where it will drop down in the back a couple of inches or so. You can push it down but it immediately pops right back up.

Thanks

Jimmy

Really! That would not have been my first guess since the hood stays up just fine. I will give it a shot. I suspect they will be a pain to install...

Thanks

Jimmy

Have the same problem with my F1 ever since I removed the hood to paint the firewall. I am going to remove the struts that hold the hood open and re adjust the hinge mounts and see what I have then. I would think that weak springs would prevent the hood from staying up.

I just removed my hood to pull the engine, I completely removed the hinges and noticed the three bolt holes that go though the body are much larger than the bolts. So it seems that there could be some adjustability there?

I got the back of the hood to drop by moving the dowel pin; in my case forward.

If it holds the hood up then springs are fine. I have worked on several of these and found the lower hinge pivot that bolts to the cowl is the culprit. Take the hinge off and get penetrating oil down in that lower pin and work the bracket back and forth. Will probably be very stiff. They get rusty down in there so end up getting tight when the hood closes. The back of the hood will drop down as you close the hood and just before it latches when it is all freed up.

I don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem on the trunk lid of my 52 Merc. Stayed up fine but no amount of adjusting would get the lid to sit down flush with the rest of the body. I experimented by removing one of the springs and now the lid sits down just fine. Only now I need a prop to hold the lid up when I 'm loading or unloading the trunk.
