Default Tranny broken, what parts will fit a 34?

The transmission of the 34 developed an unusual noise on the last run so I lifted the shifter plate. Found 2 partly chipped teeth. So now I need a gear cluster, preferably from the later years. My question is: which gears/shafts should I fit to repair the box?
I was offered a 1950 sideloader Mercury box. Will those parts fit my 34 gearbox case?
As always thanks for advice.
cheers, Harty

Many of the different years gear sets will fit into the 34 case, (not sure of 50) but you have to get the front bearing in place on the shaft after installing the gear set and the front shaft. The shift top has to change as well as the shift lever. The sheet metal transmission cover on the floor has to be slightly modified. There is nothing wrong with getting the 34 style cluster and other gears along with another 34 syncro and rebuilding the transmission. You will actually save a bit of cash, for example a NOS early cluster is usually around $60 where the later style is several hundred.

Another slightly different alternative to all '32-'34 gears are the 48-prefix ('35 version) cluster gear and input shaft/gear retaining everything else stock. They may be easier to find that their B-prefix counterparts, but both have to be used together.

I'd installed a complete set of gears from a '48 in to a '34. The owner of the vehicle was thrilled! It did require a special puller to complete this installation but was well worth the effort.

And as to the shift tower? Prefix 48- ,Yes. "From a '48 " if meaning model year, would need a straight up shift tower. Help
