Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
Wonder what is so special about a butterfly hood prop for Model A on Ebay? You can buy them new and lots of them on Ebay for $25.00-$35.00 but this one is nearing $100.00 with days to go,must be silver or platinum.I would show or share if I knew how.

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
To provide a link go to the page you want to show and then copy what is in the address bar. On a MAC the copy command is "command C" and to paste it the command is "command v" For a PC use "cntl" instead of "command".

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
My pickup had one of those on it when I bought it, but it wasn’t in very good shape. I looked at getting a new one from the vendors but decided to “refurbish” the one I had. Couple of bucks at the hardware store and some elbow grease and it looks great now for 10 years.

I bet someone buys it and considers it a deal.... "Post and hope". Now that seems to be a current "job description". I think it's a form of "fishing"... Chap

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
All it takes is two have to have it not going to let the other person have it types, it's going to be mine no matter how much I have to pay to win. If the buyer does pay, very happy for the seller.

It’s in Illinois. I bet the Governor is selling it!
The description of the item is an excellent read.

We sell them new in stainless for $27. Very odd why this auction is so high priced on this one.

the description is basically a non-description.
irritates me to see eBay listings with 30 or so random keywords bringing up a lot of crap I don't want in my searches......

Ebay used to let you warn buyers directly when this happened but now it's truly buyer beware.

The attached photos show a hood clip made by one of our club members. I have them on both my Model A's. They work on 30, 31 only.

I would hope he meant to say $12.50. and not $125.00.
And he wants $10.50 to ship. |

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
When you look at bid history click on the "Show automatic bids" button. Except for the newest bid (got to wonder on that one?) it is the same two bidders from the 60.00 point on bidding.

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
When I see something that doesn't make sense on flea-pay, I just ignore it. It always looks like fowl play but a person will never know.
I've had folks tell me that setting too low a price on good quality stuff can be detrimental to sales. I've heard from more than one show vendor that they sold more stuff when the set an equal or higher price than other vendors selling a similar item. It makes no sense but it happens all the time. Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
It did not sell, the high bidder must have backed out for some reason. Probably claimed the put in the wrong amount on their bid. It has happened to me on a item I was selling. It just runs the bids up and screws the other bidders.
It's been relisted saying "everyone one deserves a second chance". |

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
He most likely has a friend or two, bidding on it to get the price up. And when no one bites after it ends, he relists it and try's again. Just my opinion.

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
agree with zzlegend-
situations like this always make me suspect shill bidding. I recall a few years back a Bratton's catalog selling for $6 on eBay. people don't always do their homework appropriately.

I was thinking the same thing. List it as new using the exact title he used, put a price of 80.00 free shipping, refer to the ended listing to "justify" your amount, emphases on it being new and drop ship from the vendor without invoice.

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
The ad title and picture are kinda misleading. Showing the hood and calling out in the title 4 panel hood, wonder how many are bidding because they think the hood is included?

Re: Hood prop on Ebay going nuts.
I guess I created this monster of a post when I was originally looking for a Model A hood prop. I still wonder if a chrome one was made or do some people see shiny metal that is probably stainless and assume it is chrome? I have seen a couple that are black so mayby chrome non stainless ones are out there. Mayby this one is an early type that was a heavier gauge steel. I have seen other early Model A repros that were better and some that were really bad.
