You can still get the Ford type F at Advance auto parts.

You might want to look at that again closer. My '55 say's type A. If we are talking about the Ford o matic. It is also still available at many fine auto parts stores, just have to read the back label real close also.

THe original fluid was Type A. I am using Type F in my 56 TBird and it seems ok.

I have used Type A, which it calls for, from NAPA since 1999 and does just fine.

I still use Type F in my 55 Ford o matic . I bought mine at Wal mart but all parts stores still sell Type F transmission fluid .

Type F is the replacement fluid for typa A and was designed for improved Friction Charactics --In other words less sippage between friction mateials thus less wear.

I was told many years ago never to use type F in a FordOmatic. Mercon/Dexron is the replacement type fluid if you cant get type A.

My fordamatic takes type F and I can get it readily at Napa.
