35/36 Pickup Crank Hole Repair
Hello Folks.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here and I figured it’s about time I share. As some of you know, I’ve been restoring a ‘36 pickup. I haven’t had much time lately to work on it, but a few days ago I started to tackle making a new crank hole piece to repair the missing section on my grill. I know many of these grills are missing this piece or it’s at least damaged beyond repair. Is this a piece that some of you old Ford pickup guys would be interested in? If so, I am willing to spend the time to make tooling to make a dozen or two, maybe more if needed. I machined the male half of the tooling in order to stamp one or two with a urethane die for the female side, but in order to make more, I’d have to make a steel or aluminum female die. I can offer the correct shape grill bars as well if needed. I’m attaching a picture of the rough draft. I still need to figure out the blank shape to have the correct end result, but it’s close. Hope everyone is well. Last edited by OldGold360; 01-17-2022 at 09:25 PM. |

Thanks Mercman.
Please know I’m not trying to peddle goods on this site. Just trying to offer pieces for other peoples pickups that I’ve needed to make for my own. Thanks |

Re: 35/36 Pickup Crank Hole Repair
That looks nice, how close is that to a '34 pickup or big truck?

Re: 35/36 Pickup Crank Hole Repair
As deuce lover correctly stated, the Crank Handle Hole on the 1934 Ford Pick-Up Grille is very different to the ones on the 1936 Ford Pick-Up Grilles. Refer to above picture. |

Re: 35/36 Pickup Crank Hole Repair
I just wish that had been available a few years back when I was working on my grill. That is for the tall hole grill. (There were two sizes, height wize) of crank holes in 35-36. Depended on the maker I guess.

Re: 35/36 Pickup Crank Hole Repair
Sorry for the delay. Had to leave town for a family matter. I will be machining the female die today and should have the pieces ready as soon as late this week, and will reach out to those who have contacted me.
Thanks |

Re: 35/36 Pickup Crank Hole Repair
I am ready to start making these crank hole repair sections for the 35 and 36 pickups. I have played around with different blanks to stamp these from, and the finished result is in the pictures below. I’m unsure if there are any other years that have the same crank hole. I have been told that there are long crank holes as well as short crank holes for these pickups. The one I am making is the long version, but shortening one isn’t too complicated if you can weld.
I’m still trying to determine a price, which is harder than it sounds. My goal is to break even, but I’m not sure if that’ll be possible with how much time I’ve spent programming, machining the tooling, and everything else that went into it. Does $65 sound fair? |
