Default Bolt confusion

I am starting to detail my engine bay ,and would like it to make it correct as possible . My confusion is when I look in the catalog they state black or zaven are the proper ones for carb and valve cover, timing pin and charge more money. When I check the newest judging standards the appear to be plain unpainted 1- what is correct,2- wondering why more than 1 suppliers state black,or raven ( my car is a Feb 3rd 1929 build date on fire wall) thanks for your help in advance .

Did you check page 1-18 of the Standards?

I applaud you in your trying to do the job correctly. You see that it is just as easy to buy stuff that looks correct as it is to buy just any bolts. There is often more to a part then just color so I recommend buying the Guidelines.

Here is a link to more info until you order your manual,

What the OP is saying is that there is a difference between what the JS says and what the vendors say in their catalogs for the fasteners he lists.

He indicates he HAS the latest release of the judging standards.

I guess what the responses are telling him is that in all cases stick to the JS and that our vendors are selling incorrect parts (in this case)

Take a look at this:

www.fordbolts.com

That's Roy Nacewicz's website.

He has put together an eighteen page catalog of seriously correct fasteners, and it's an amazing accomplishment.

He's a super guy to work with, and I really think that just about any FBer who downloads the PDF will be both pleased and amazed...

(Disclaimer: I've got no skin in the game, I'm just a happy customer!!!)

Thanks for the heads up on Roy Nacewicz!! He's been the go-to guy for V8 folks for many years - I didn't realize he did Model A's also. They are great guys and run a top-notch outfit!

Bolt confusion isn't as bad as getting your nuts confused

If your nuts are too tight, you can freeze them off in Minnesota. LOL
