Default Universal joint housing cap.

I just noticed that the two caps that clamp together to house the universal joint on my '31 are different from each other. One is actually ground off to fit.One that looks okay has a part # on it A-4514-B2.Now I cannot find the part # in the Green Bible parts book but I see on the exploded view in Snyders catalog they call out A-4520-C and note not available. Is this going to be one of the impossible to find parts and does anyone know if the one half I have 4514 is also a good number? Thank You.

That's the same part number I had on mine although both halves had that part number. Putting them together showed that they weren't perfectly symmetrical. What do you mean one is ground off to fit? If it worked before you took it apart shouldn't it go back together and work okay again?

Also, take a look at this. http://www.plucks329s.org/pdf/studie...y_restorer.pdf

Yes it should work but just looks so half assed.I would say it was an earlier type mayby or a AA looks like someone sawed ears or something off of it.

Ahh now I understand. Maybe try to post some pictures? Also, even though it's butchered does it match up with any of the pictures in that article?

That one should work if it cleans up well I think.

If it had ears, it probably was an early 28 ...an AR. The brake system attached there. Also the early 28 had bolt holes that were not evenly spaced.

Thank you for posting Pluck's info and as always thanks to Pluck.I will check it again tomorrow but I think it may be the one in figure # 5 because of the 1/8" grease grooves. So it looks like my flange to transmission is the correct number as is half of the clam shell. What someone probably did years ago is just make it work and put on what they had.Problem with the ground off ears is that the grooves are exposed to the outside,no wonder it was a ball of dirt and grease.I have found similar issues throughout this car and have been straightening out as I go.I think someone had quite a few Model A parts at hand and just used what they laid there hands on. Nothing has been done to this car as far as "restoration "in 50-60 years so you would think they had access to good parts .Sometimes I do find good some bad.I will look at the one you mentioned on Ebay, hope it is not the one in Canada where for shipping he just listed "freight" ?

It is okay guy did quote me a halfway decent price. Also with the halves I have all winter that I could find one and install later, just need to put the solid piece eand gaskets in place when I reinstall transmission, halves can come later.

Originally the top and bottom were machined together, and Ford wired them together and sold them as a set. Unfortunately many people haven't kept the halves together, so today you end up with a mix and match.
Bert's should have the parts. 800-321-1931
