Cleaning Sheet Metal 9-14-2017
My compressor is too small to sandblast without waiting for it to catch it takes forever. So I had these 28 - 29 running board aprons with a couple of repaints and no telling what was hidden underneath that I placed in the electrolysis tank. So far so good no dents or bondo yet but a little welding needed around the mounting holes.

I was using rebar but it didn't last that is some old trailer house floor support that's been holding up a long time.

The pictures are a little deceiving! Electrolysis will not remove solid paint.

There's nothing deceiving I use washing soda and it does remove paint that red paint and pink primer came off just like you see it.

That rototiller in the background looks like the old Milwaukee tiller my dad had in the 50's. It had a Clinton 4 cycle engine, and came with a cycle bar mower and rear tiller. That thing sure got a lot of use. |

Today's photo the black paint under the rust is slowly turning to goo. With a little wire brushing, it washes off with the hose and back into the tank it's slow but I just check it a couple of times a day.

That hames hanging on that exterior wall above the steel drum definitely adds vintage character to your photo.

Re: Cleaning Sheet Metal 9-14-2017
Hi,
A friend of mine in Johannesburg has filled a big plastic tank with a mixture of 10% molasses and water, he dips the parts in the tank overnight and in the morning pressure cleans the parts, they come out like new, no rust, paint or filler. He even put a rusty V8 block in the tank, says the water jacket was cleaned of all rust Viv. |

Re: Cleaning Sheet Metal 9-14-2017
Five days on each end and still a little paint and filler. But it's all starting to peel real slow but beats hand sanding. The backside still has a little rust and black paint down in the pits. Back in the tank for a few more days?
