The problem is getting them with the propershape for the welting.
You can see in the photo that it does not fit the welting the person has chose to use. I am fairly sure that is not the correct type for the car.

For the 68C the Loctite welting was used and repro ends were made like original for the Loctite. Well good luck getting it. I know of 2 people who have made their own and will only make it again for their own customers and I know it will not be cheap. They did not like making it.

FWIW as an extra bonus of more useless knowledge. The welting on the 68C was different because of the nail point. The welting is supposed to hide the interface between the top and the body. The 68C needs the the welting to cover more on one side then the other. So the welting is nailed about 2/3 - 3/4 the way off center. Much of the welting you can get is designed to be nailed in the middle covering the same area on either side of the nail.

As you can see the cabriolet guys have fun trying to get things 'workable', that is something that does the job like original. Correct for points is even harder.

Bill, the tips show in post #1 are the only ones I have ever seen. Do you have any photos showing what the other 3 patterns looked like? The tips in post #1 are on a 29 Cabriolet.

The ones in your original photo look reasonably correct. They are just not put on exactly right and the mating angles look "off"

I'd say close enough as none can be found that have the profile and angles.

Sir,..I have a few questions..

Are the angles the SAME for ALL 4 sets ?
That's a lot of tool and die work,..could 4 males sets and 2 female sets work?
Material?....steel/plated or SS ?

Thanks,
Dudley

No, it takes four dies because of the different size ridges and the left/right issue. They are made to the contour of the hidem welt. I am looking at possibly two dies making all four. The originals were nickel plated. Likely I will attempt them in brass and nickel plate. Brass "generally" forms easier than steel and for sure stainless. These things have rather intricate detail and are small.

We shall see down the road. If someone else takes off and makes them let me know...don't want to spend the time if someone else is interested. But I need more sets myself....I have one set! But lucky to have those.

I purchased welting tips in 2014 from Bob Anderson, but unfortunately Bob passed away in 2017. He had them in two sizes, one for original size Locktite binding, and another for larger size binding. Sorry I can't help further.

I will add my name to the list of people who will buy a 4-piece set, if OldBlueOval is willing to make them...he does excellent work. My car is a 1930 68B, made in the late summer to early fall of 1930. Thanks!

I would be interested in one set of four for a 1931 68B.

Just to update all
I made a preliminary attempt at them and was far from satisfied
Needs lots of tweaking and rethink. Little intricate, detailed parts can be a pain in the back side!
Probably can't get back on it till late spring

This photo can be zoomed in a bit to better see details of the tips, which came from Bob Anderson. The photo in the original post does not enlarge well.

I feel lucky to have bought many of my cabriolet unique pieces early in the rebuilding process, as some are no longer easily obtained. While my car is not at all an attempt at restoration, I always felt it important to keep the top as close to right as I could. An early photo ( from 1930) showed the car did not have the brown edge trim common to most other cabriolets. The paint is based on the Andalucite Blue formula, but a bit lighter and less reddish. Andalucite Blue was the original color of my car when new.

Any updates on if these 4 special ones (2 left and 2 right with flat ends) are available anywhere?

And what are the other pointed ones supposed to be like? I have found 3 variations.

The ones with the hole centered are like current aftermarket Macs or recent LeBaron hardware or similar to the restoration guidelines photos, but some say they should have the offset holes? The middle ones are old leBaron tips, the right might be original or another old copy?? What design is correct for mid 1930 Cabriolet?

Thanks
