Default Mallory

Can anyone give me some input about how to install a Mallory with electronic ignition and centrifugal advance. I have the car at tdc now just looking for input about to set the timing. I attached an image to show what I have.

Thanks,
David

Here is a link to FSI Distributor. They have the installation and timing instructions for 6 and 12 volt.

David,

That has a "LED" light as a trigger(unilite), for the coil.
Drop it in and turn the distributor to were the LED bulb and the "shutter wheel" that's
attached to the rotor line up in the window. It should start. The Unilite is noted for burning
out,...if that's the case,..put in a set of points and condenser.....OOps!..no lobes for points..

You really need a timing indicator and a TDC mark on the pulley.

You may not know exactly what advance curve is in the distributor you are using so you should set the timing not at idle but running.

I like to set timing at 30 deg BTDC @ 2000 engine RPM. You also need to check to see if the advance does not go much above 32 deg as engine speed increases over 2000 RPM.

In my opinion, it is always a good idea with mechanical advance to set to set the timing at 2000 RPM and not at idle.

Most FSI distributors have way too much mechanical advance.

The original Model B distributors, which work well in a Model A, only had about 12-14 Deg of Mechanical advance. You set initinal timing at apx 16-18 deg which gave you 30 deg at 2000 which is what you want.

Again this is just my opinion and others may have a different opinion.
