Nice post by 34Fordy and the reply from my good friend Pete. Dang near everybody on this forum is good for the group, 'Yes' we say and do things we regret at times - all part of being a human being I guess!

Hell - I catch myself almost doing some of the same stupid things I may have done 50 years ago - can stop most of them . . . but every once in awhile a dumb one slips through! LOL. It is kind of like having an 'inner squirrel' - sometimes it just has to come out . . .

Do some manufacturers install them with the large surface down? Seems like every new plug I have ever installed had the small part down from the factory. Like someone else suggested maybe the machine that installs the washer works better or has fewer start failures starting the large surface first. I have noticed some (later overhead) heads have a small recess machined where the washer contacts, probably to make a true 90 degree surface to seat on the casting.
